Leinart, Anyone?

Word from NFL Network indicates Arizona quarterback and all-world caliber head case Matt Leinart is on the trading block, having ticked off coach Ken Whisenhunt sufficiently.

The Giants are said to be among the teams inquiring about a trade, but I suspect it's only Jerry Reese doing what they call due diligence, so don't expect a trade announcement. But does anybody want to see him actually pull the trigger on this guy?

  1. No, no, and NO! We have purged all of the headcases on this team, please don't bring any in. Can you imagine Leinart in NYC and the media circus that would ensue? He would be in the tabloids within minutes, as he gets drunk with underages in some midtown bar. The Giants do not need that...ever. Plus, I think Bomar might be better!

  2. There's no way Bomar is currently better than Leinart. I think he'd make a viable backup as long as they don't give up too much draft-wise.

  3. Heck No! If the Giants are so inclined to sign him as a free agent so be it, but to give up so much as a conditional 7th round pick for Hollywood is way too much.

  4. John B-

Why is it so inconcieveable that Bomar might be better than Leinart?

    Facts:
    Bomar has a stronger arm
    Bomar has a quicker release
Bomar is not a me first selfish Hollywood wannabe

  5. Being better than Leinart is like being better than Jamarcus Russell, neither one is very good. Bomar may have looked OK in preseason, but what happens when he plays against more sophisticated defenses? Is he ready? Our offense is vanilla enough as it is, I have always felt that one aspect of the backup is that they need to be able to run, this forces the opponent to at least respect the fact that they will scramble for first down on occassion. Bomar has some ability to do this, Leinart has none

  6. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO no no no no NOOOOOOOOOOOO no. If we're so desperate for a reliable backup, why would we go for a non-Vet who doesn't know the offense and has yet to prove himself as even an average QB? Bomar is the way to go for now.

  7. HUUUUHHHH???? Matt Leinart?????

Where did this come from? I know we need a back-up but him? The guy seems like a spoiled millionaire...why do we need someone like that.

I gotta agree with Wayno2424 and CE718...Bomar is better in that the guy is not looking to get in trouble...now that is way better than Leinart already. Plus Bomar, who may not be great, seems like a eager and diligent player to me.

  8. Here's the way I'm sure it went down:

    ...RING RING...
    Rod Graves: Hello?
Reese: It's Reese. What are you asking for Leinhart?

Graves: 4th rounder and he demands to be a starter.

    CLICK

    Graves:......hello?

  9. Please....No, No, No more HEAD CASES.
There are others that can fill the void.

  10. Maybe, just maybe worth a shot @ the right price with Sorgi gone this year. That is nothing against mr Bomar, whom I like and see a future, but sometimes a change of scene does a player good. General Tom & the regime might be that change and can do him some good.

I say yes and propose this:

    S Moss & 2015 7th round & 2018 5th round, or sumthin like that. Thanks Ernie!

  11. Completely disagree Russ, although you maybe right about the change of scenery, NYC is not the place for Leinart. Send him to Buffalo or Seatte for a change of scenery, somewhere a little quieter. Actually, Seattle would be great for him. Also, I do not believe you can trade someone on IR. So, Moss out of any trade thoughts going forward.

Something just occurred to me. Tyree was on IR before being released. Sorry Moss, your fate is sealed.

  12. Where is the evidence that this guy is a "headcase"? So what? He is not the world's biggest jock. And he likes women. He's young. He's good looking. He's wealthy. He is doing what most other guys would do if they were in his position. I'm not saying he is the world's best QB. But there is something else going on in Ariz. Some personality conflict. And we're only getting one side to it for the most part. The Cards will regret getting rid of this guy for Derrick, (I can't make the Browns starting roster)Anderson. What makes Anderson so damn hot? I'll take Leinart in a heartbeat of both Sorgi and Bomar. That is not saying all that much, I'll grant you. But I'll take him over those guys.

  13. The dude is a headcase. Leinart is a mediocre pro-QB to date. In four years his stats are: 29 games, 340/595, 57.1% comp, 3893 yds, 14 TDs, 20 INTs. He was a first round draft pick, a Heisman winner, and was supposed to be the Cardinals franchise QB of the future. The only time I remember him making the home page of espn.com was when he was pictured getting underage girls drunk in a hot tub. Reports are that he came into his rookie year expecting the job to be handed to him. Heck, the Cardinals had to go get Warner because Leinart was so bad. So, yes, the guy is an arrogant headcase who is a marginal NFL QB. Had Bomar not gotten in trouble at Oklahoma, he would have developed into a first round draft pick. He has the tools and talent to be a decent NFL QB. Bomar at least plays with heart and is fighting. I would rather the guy who fights for a spot, rather than the one who is losing the QB position in Arizona so BADLY to Derek Anderson, he is being traded away.

  14. Giants only team mentioned that does NOT deny report! Cardinals locker room saying it will be Giants. They better get that salary reduced! He's due 7.5 million next year.

  15. Nonsense tabloid-esque gossipy silliness....

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well of course the other teams would deny it. Leinart is a threat to their abs and ot ours. If our qb was under siege they might deny it, but Eli is entrenched. Don't read too much into it.

Conditions under which Wayno2424 would be in favor of a Leinart acquisition
    1. Leinart comes as a free agent with zero comp going to the Cards. At what price doesn't matter in an uncapped yr with the billionaire heirs(or shall we say the stadium suckers) footing the bill.
    2. The Giants cut Bomar and roll the dice with being able to resign him to the practice squad. Sorry Rhett, luv u but the roster spot needs to be used for an athlete that can help somewhere, preferably Special teams.
    3. Leinart comes in and says all the right things only looking forward. I don't need any desert sob stories, this isn't about him.

  17. Sign him, ship him off even up for Carr, Both will be happy, Carr back to Jints and Leinart to the west coast. olmackie

  18. I think that the Giants should stop worrying about the backup QB position so much. If Eli goes down were done anyway and we need to focus on getting to the playoffs even with Eli. Bomar can do for now, the g-men should not waste their time with Leinart.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Didn't know that many people didn't like Bomar as a backup. Thought he looked okay against the Steelers. If we're basing this on the game against the Ravens, even Eli (who hasn't missed a reg season start, mind you) didn't look all that great either.

Leinart has no one on the Cards coming to his defense, why would we add him to the Giants?

  20. Jay Glazer now says Giants are NOT going after Leinart. Love the offseason - they just throw s**t at the walls and see if anything sticks. Guess we'll know who is right by Sunday. I'm giving Glazer the benefit of the doubt. Never saw that match working out. Leinhart still thinks he's a starter and he AIN'T getting that chance in NY.

  21. Rather see Warner than Leinhart. At least he knows the system.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Eli and Bohmar and Bob Papa would have to go down for the year before I would ever consider him and his salary and the circus. If Carr does get cut in SF that would be a consideration depending on salary and such

    ReplyDelete
  23. He plays under optimum conditions in AZ. Leinart has a suspect arm. We do not need that in Nov. & Dec. in the Meadowlands. PERIOD!

    ReplyDelete
  24. its a no for Leinart from me. too much money, too much to give up to get him and he'd want to be a starter. if he goes anywhere, its Buffallo.

i9f we're lookign for anybody, i'd rather take a shot at Brady Quinn. ok, not an amazing career so far, but he was on an AWFUL team, coached by an AWFUL coach. with the arrival of Tebow at Denver, he could be pickd up for a 7th rounder and would make a servicable back up.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I heard that the real reason Leinart is being offered is because a free agent from Fordham, John Skelton, has outplayed everyone in camp and the Cardinals are afraid to expose him to the practice squad.

  26. Brady Quinn!!!!???? It is fun, I'll say that, to read what so called sports fans post.

  27. As far as Leinert to the Giants goes, this story was dead before it even hit the back page. He was available, the Giants inquired, the issue was over.

It's Bomar. We'll be better off in the long run with him.

My biggest question about this team right now is this: what good will having an improved defense be if we have NOBODY to return punts?
I predict the average starting field position for the Giants offense this year will be the 18 yard line.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lou, think of it this way: just more yards for Eli to rack up this year.
