So Long, But Not Farewell

When I started this blog, five days short of a year ago, I always knew this day would come. And now that it has, I find myself torn between excitement and sadness.

This is the last entry on Ernie Palladino's Giants Beat. Yep, we're closing down. But we're not out of business. A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by Scout.com, which recently became a Foxsports.com affiliate, to handle their Giants website. After much thought, I decided it was a professional move worth making. So, starting at some point over the weekend, you'll find me at http://nyg.scout.com/, where I plan to do much of the same stuff I do here and more. They have something I don't -- resources -- and that will make a world of difference.

They've got the site laid out right now and, I have to tell you, it's kinda snazzy looking. Got my name right up there. It's called Ernie Palladino's The Giants Beat. Sound familiar? We had to add the "the" for legal purposes, but it's close enough. I asked for it so there would be no confusion about where you landed, and the folks at Scout.com were more than happy to oblige.

As far as content goes, it's going to be a lot of the same stuff you've seen here. Stories, opinion, analysis. As soon as I learn the ins and outs of their software, I plan to continue with the videos that were so well received here.

The Big Blue Wrecking Crew runs its message board there, and I know a number of you participate in it already. I'll chime in once in a while. In addition, I'll take direct questions on my own message board as soon as they set it up. And we'll be having regular, hour-long chats.

I hope you'll all come over there with me. Sounds like they have a good, enthusiastic group there, and I'm going to encourage them to welcome your thoughts.

As for Ernie Palladino's Giants Beat, well, let's say it will now recede into the footnoted footnotes of cyberspace history. We were an intimate group, topping out at around 1,000 visitors per day and 57,000 hits per month. Those aren't big numbers. Actually, they're miniscule when put up against the successful blogs and websites. Still, I heard a lot of good things about what we did here, even from people who never responded to the entries. Our conversations were lively, to say the least, but for the most part we managed to have civil, courteous discourse about the Giants. I'm proud of that. And I'm proud of what we all did here at this blog.

Things end, though. Opportunity doesn't knock very often in this economy, so when it does you'd better answer it. That's what I'm doing.

I hope you'll all follow me over to Scout.com and help me build something special there, something just as special as we had over here. For those who do, I'll be waiting. For those who take a pass, I'll miss you.

Thanks for everything.

  7. Congratulations Ern, and thank you for a) supplying us with some great info (we may be a small blog, but time and again you broke news to us quicker than the established blogs and websites) and b) for putting up with us for so long.

  8. Congrats, Ernie. I've been reading this blog of yours since day one and it's consistently been the best source of Giants news on the Net.

I look forward to checking out your new venture.

  10. See you there Ernie! Glad we are not losing you and your experience. Best of luck at the new site.

    Go Giants, go Ernie !!!!

  11. Awesome, Ernie! Congrats! While I'd certainly prefer to read you for free, I think I share the sentiment of many that I'd be happy to pay a nominal fee to continue reading you. You, quite simply, are the best beat writer we've had on the Giants in 20 years. We understand you need to pay the bills and we are all happy to oblige.

Best of luck. And see you over at Scout.com

I have been reading it with great enthusiasm over the course of the past year. I think it is the best blog out there on the Giants. Thanks for excellent content...

  17. It's like an old friend is moving out of state for their dream job. You feel good that your old friend is moving on to bigger and better, but it's a bad feeling knowing he won't be around. Honestly, Ern, I wish you the best. But no chance the new site will be as personal and as inviting. But bills have to be paid and I'll never question a man's need to keep food on the table and a roof over head. Good for you, man. Sorry this didn't make the $$$ that would have allowed you to stay independent. It's been a good run. I wish you success and happiness. Thank you for a good year.

  26. COngrats, Ernie. Of all the blogs, this was my favorite one - kind of a small family feeling. Hope we can keep that feel on your new blog. Thanks for all the work!

  28. Ernie,

I always enjoy the curve you provide on the Giants highway of life and hopefully we will all continue the merry back'n'forth.

that being said, Scout.com sounds like a cyber F-troop episode?

see you on the the otherside of the otherside Ernie.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Congrats Ernie.

Honestly, this was the best Giants blog out there. I never went to the other sites, they just weren't as good. You had more info., were more knowledgeable and were just overall better.

As angry as I would get with some of the posts that people wrote, I felt as though we could have a legitimate conversation about football. And I thank you for that Ernie.

I always knew you were eventually going to leave us, so congratulations, good luck and I'll definitely make an appearance at your new site. I don't know how often I'll post though, I really liked the intimate feel of this site.

    Good luck Ernie.

    Ernie congrats man.
Been posting anonymously occasionally but I think I'll like to put my name through this time =) Disliked blogs but this one was great and I always checked on facebook to see any new stories you posted =D and I enjoyed reading all those comments that were related to football from the regulars. I almost always had this webpage open in one of my tabs.

though don't know about the other side, I need to check it out, I hate too much advertisement when I read.

    bah poor grammar...

    btw I'm a Boss fan also =)

P.S. great comeback =)and again congrats

  39. Congrats Ernie! In this economy one can't be to sure about anything and if opportunity come's a knock'in you gotta take it!

Hope it's not a total pay thing if so hope you are free at least. The site looks total professional which is kind of a turnoff but at this point I will follow you over there!

Will miss your site! Really looked forward to checking your site out everday for news on the Giants! Thanks for everthing!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Can you post comments on the new site?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I went over and looked at the new site. It looks like you have to be a paying member to read Ernie's articles? And then no direct way to comment on those articles. Is that what you guys found? I am very disappointed. This blog was favorite blog - great discussions. I am going to miss it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. and his live blogs and videos are for paying articles. Nobody's gonna pay, Im pissed.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i miss ernie's chat......anybody still out there?

    ReplyDelete
  44. yeah, me too. I look over here every so often to see if there is any activity. That would be funny to keep this blog alive by adding to this one post!

    ReplyDelete
  45. ha...protest the pay site by commenting here!

1-0...not a perfect win but I'll take it. Nervous about the "read and react" v. Peyton though. Should be a good game. Plus there should be a Bear sighting!

    ReplyDelete
  46. This game will tell us a lot more than the last one. Although beating the Panthers is worth something considering how they shellacked the Giants last year!

I see that Ernie has put up a Live Chat on his new site for Sunday night. But you have to be a Premium member. That's a bummer. There's so much information on the web, I can't see paying for it on that site.

    ReplyDelete
  47. tonight was a disaster. D looked asleep the 1st half.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ern is a dick!!!!!!!!! Wish we coulda live blogged gggggggmen.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Definitely miss the live blog on this site.

Last night's game reminded me WAY too much of the fiasco in New Orleans last year when the Giants go shellacked by the Saints. Whatever game plan the coaches came up with didn't work. As a younger brother myself, I feel bad for Eli. He only gets to compete against his brother every 4 years and the team and coaches let him down.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I must say I was a tad upset when just the puff pieces and recaps of the game were the only freebies on the new Giants Beat blog...I understand one has to make a living but throw us a friggin' bone once in a while...LET'S GO BIG BLUE!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm happy for Ern and hope the site does well, but I have to say, I think it sucks. There's very little content to begin with (not the multiple posts he had here) and it seems like every other post you need to be a member to get.

Plus, the discussion board sucks, it's a pain to get to and find. I know this isn't Ernie's fault and you can't pass up a paying job, but you would think a site owned by Fox Sports would be better.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I totally agree. Having Ernie on this rather 'personal' type of blog was a treat. I do wish Ernie the best of luck, but with so many other sources of Giants information out there, I can't justify paying for the information. Too bad Ernie couldn't keep this blog going anyway. Not enough hours in the day, probably.

    ReplyDelete
  53. How bout dem Bears bwahahahaha....man, that wouldda been a nice live blog....cough cough ERNIE!

If Koets stays injured we might finally see what Andrews can do!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anyone still check this from time to time? Man, the Dallas game was really ugly. No matter how good the Giants are, at any moment, they can come out and look like the Keystone cops. They better get this mess fixed in a hurry with Philly up next. I want to see how they respond to this game.

    ReplyDelete
  55. "hellooooo........is there anybody out there...."

    ReplyDelete
  56. I check this last entry from time to time.

The Giants have definitely faded, to say the least. I am glad the Giants are in the hunt for a playoff spot most years, but they keep falling apart in December. It gets old...
