As most of you know, my 33-year career at the Journal News ended a couple of weeks ago in a massive scaledown of the newsroom staff. That doesn't mean the end, however. Just a new beginning.
So welcome, one and all, to Page 1, Chapter 2.
I'm starting my own Giants blog because, hey, who can ever get enough of a good thing? I'm hoping all my friends and critics will stick with me for a while as I try to continue to paint a clear, concise picture of the Giants' 2009 season. I'll try to add a few things as we go along, and transfer any new techniques I learn from my blogger buddies. Who knows? We might just prove an old dog like me can learn a new trick or two.
And while you're reading my blog, I remind you to take a gander at all my guys' and gals' offerings, all of which will be listed -- with much gratitude for their warmth and wishes during a tough time -- on my blog roll. They're all good. If I can do half the job they do, now that I'm on my own, I'll consider this little gambit a success.
So follow along. Stick with me. And tell your friends that Old Ern's back. We'll start tomorrow, as the Giants begin work on Sunday's opening opponent, the Washington Redskins.
See ya then.

PS: That handsome old man you see is me, and that handsome young man in the pen-and-ink is also yours truly, in the Giants press box in 1990. It was done by the late, legendary Journal News artist Frank Becerra, a good friend, and it currently hangs in my home office as one of my most prized possessions of a wonderful career.
Good Luck Ernie! Is Pat going to give you a credential?
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, Ernie. We'll miss you!

Ernie,
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with this. I will be reading. You were fabulous to me when I started Big Blue View. If I can return the favor in any way, I will be more than happy to.
At least now I don't have to pay the cover charge for that other Muse, just to get to your stories. Not to mention I was stuck throwing the rest of it away. Best of luck.
ReplyDeleteErnie
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you in your new adventure. I am sure all will go well.
Great! You are going on my bookmarks bar for daily viewing. Can't wait until Sunday. Oh, you better add The Blue Screen (Ralph V.) to your blogroll. :) He sent me here.
ReplyDeleteOK, Ern, You're bookmarked. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteErnie

Good luck Ernie, glad you didn't stay on the sidelines for long.
ReplyDeleteSuperbowl predictions! Now that you're a freelancer, no more of this journalistic integrity BS! Good luck Ernie!
ReplyDeleteErnie,
ReplyDeleteIt will take people like you to define and stabilize the new media...just like the film folks who gave us the golden age of tv.
Sure, the variables are more than three tv networks...but, there's a lot more like you, on the left side of the equation trying to enable the evolution, or revolution. Go get it.
Peace.
Good luck with the blog Ernie, what's on your mind going into the new season?
ReplyDeleteMichael Irvin said on NFL Network tonight that his pick for the Division is...the New York Giants...(but not the superbowl). It was just weird hearing Mike say that...
Good to see you back in the Giants game. Good luck. It's always great to add another blog to my daily list.
ReplyDeleteErnie, this is great. Thanks for setting this blog up. It is already on my Favorites. I grew up in Westchester and now live in New Orleans so this is a great way for me to get good Giants coverage. Good luck and I will be reading.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Ernie....added to the daily read....
ReplyDeleteThe best of everything to the GMEN and Ernie from here in Ft. Worth. Cowboys ain't got nuthin' on my GMEN...or Ernie. Buona Fortuna.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Ernie - and more importantly, good for us that we get to continue reading your stuff!
ReplyDeleteThis blog will only work if u are truly independent. You can inundate us with info like Pete Abraham's blog but if u use it as a forum to kiss ass like he does it will fail.
ReplyDeleteAt least you'll have one Florida reader! Love ya -- Donna
