The fourth ballot, a simple majority, came down on the side of the New York-New Jersey bid, so Super Bowl XLVIII will be held in the New Meadowlands Stadium.
Just be ready for a few traffic jams in Manhattan Super Bowl week. But, hey, you've got four years to prepare your alternate routes. For any out-of-town fans making their plans, I suggest Del Frisco's Steakhouse.

It's a stupid idea. I don't want to see a super bowl in snow covered New York and you know New York...there's always a chance of snow, especially in Feb. I don't mind weather being a factor in the regular season or even in the playoffs, but I've always felt the Superbowl is a place where the best athletes in football could exhibit their talents in optimum conditions. No fog bowl and no ice bowl...either under a dome or under beautiful 70 degree sunny weather where guys can just beat the crap out of each other without having to worry about external factors like weather. Also it should be a reward for players who make it to the big game...playing in conditions that actually recognize the athletic prowess of these athletes.
ReplyDeleteIf your from out of town, you may want to make your reservations now. Maybe I will be able to rent out my apartment for the week.
ReplyDeleteSend them to Strip House, Bobby Vans or Old Homestead. Del Frisco's is overrated.
ReplyDelete@1138sw: Ask any player in the league thats been there or even come close, the reward isn't in making it to the SB but in winning it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the players that take their teams to the championship game in the first place are the ones that are able to win regardless of external circumstances. Their talent trumps whatever may be falling from the sky. They go out and play the game. Rain/shine/snow/sleet/mud/sub zero temps etc etc.
The Super Bowl is coming to New Jersey!
ReplyDeleteToo bad all of the attention will be focused on New York City.
Oh No!!! All those corporate slugs from out of town might get a wittle cold! Nothing wrong with football in the cold. Football belongs in the cold. The more snow and sleet and mud the better! Next time a journalist or fan complains about the Superbowl in NY, respond with: "What, is your vagina gonna freeze?" NYC is the greatest city in the world. The rest of the country will have to deal.
ReplyDelete1138sw - So unless it's 70 degrees and sunny or in a dome, it's not the best possible game? Wow. I guess the label "The Greatest Game Ever Played" will have to be revoked. A lot of the greatest players that ever played the game are going to be shocked to find out their performance didn't measure up because their Championship was played outdoors in less than perfect conditions. Two words for you - Arena Football. Under your standards, they play optimal football every game. You'll be much happier there than with the cold and rainy NFL. Beers are cheaper, too, so it's a win-win for you. I saw Super Bowl XXV in Tampa. Great game. Unfortunately, my wife and I were trapped for a week in a southern trailer park masquerading as a city. Maybe one or two players might like to play in a city where fine dining is not TGIF? Or, go down in NFL history as NOT playing in some generic, boring, run of the mill Super Bowl and playing in an exciting, dynamic game that tests each athlete to perform at his physically and psychological best? A fan or two might like to be in a city that isn't 75% strip clubs? Just a few thoughts to ponder. Honestly, there is one and only one reason this has a downside - terrorism. The bullseye we all walk around with from living here just got even bigger. I didn't leave after 9/11 so I'm not going to cower now. Just make sure we all keep our eyes open when the game comes to town. It's not like the rubes from out of town are going to notice anything.
ReplyDeleteI've ripped Osi here for his comments several times. so to be fair, hats off to Osi for this quote. IMO, best thing he has ever said;
ReplyDelete"Said Giants DE Osi Umenyiora on a New Jersey Super Bowl, "I know a lot of people have talked about the weather. All I know is that when we won the NFC Championship game in Green Bay in minus-23 wind chill, it felt like Miami Beach to our team and our fans. I was ready to have an umbrella drink on the 50 when Lawrence (Tynes') kick went through in overtime, and I don't drink."
Hard to believe that there were so many owners who didn't seem to think that the Giants' ownership weren't owed a positive for bringing revenue sharing to the NFL which has been the fertilizer and greatest catalyst for the league's growth.
ReplyDeleteGreat comments all around Dweez! I'm right there with you.
ReplyDeleteChris B.
Sorry I mangled that sentence. Should read "...owners who seemed to think..."
ReplyDeleteErnie:
ReplyDeleteDel Frisco's?
Oy vey Azamir.
What about that Italian Ice/Steakhouse combo we talked about opening across the street from the Meadowlands near the soon to be built go-go bars? You know the place...a walk up window for Raspberry Ice and a Filet Mignon sandwich?
j/k...tell em the tic tock diner ain't bad if they are broke AFTER SB 48...
