Osi Interview

Here's the link to a WFAN interview with Osi Umenyiora regarding the year the Giants' defense had. In it, he says he'll quit before he becomes a part-time player again.

Interesting listen.

  1. Play the run Osi! Seriously, this guys ego is getting in the way of his play. He is quickly becoming the Shockey of the Defense.

Wonder if we could get a first rounder for him? I would do that trade in a heartbeat. The Raiders would love this guy!

  2. Just as I don't ever want to see Heidi and Spencer ever again, I want a media Osi blackout until this part time overrated player gets traded. For some reason even on this message board it seems he has support but he was physically manhandled at the point of contact all year. His run defense was some of the worst I've seen from a Giants DE. His lack of stats proves the point but he looked bad doing it too.

  3. Seriously, is this the foot you want to get off on with your new DC? He is basically telling Fewell to play him or he will become a problem. Kiwi wants playing time too Osi and he played the run a lot better than you!

Osi better shut his trap and come to camp highly motivated to be a pro bowl all-around player. He has to close the gap between the player he thinks he is and the one that performed on the field in 2009.

If not, I'm serious in my thoughts that the Giants should trade him. Ernie, what's he worth? Could we get a first rounder out of him? Look what Detroit got for Williams. I know its the other side of the ball but comparitatively speaking it holds up.

  4. You get a second rounder if ur reallly lucky, but they could also get a special teams player or stopgap along with a 3rd rounder. Only one team would give up a first rounder for Osi but the pats already have that pick.

  5. Two second rounders and a third and he's yours....any takers? Please.

  6. ONE second rounder is morelike it, this guy STINKS and I can't even say one dimensional because he can't rush the passer either.

  7. You never want to trade a player when his value is down. Osi is in that position now. The Giants were forced to trade Jeremy Shockey when it was apparant he didn't want to play for the Giants anymore. Look how that turned out. A 2nd & 5th round pick respectively. Clint Sintim & Rhett Bomar. Sintim shows possible potential and Bomar will never take a meaningful snap for the Giants in my opinion. The only way we might get value for Osi is to trade him to Oakland. Maybe Al Davis will over pay?

  8. Not true, I think that the Rams would take Osi. He and Spags had a good relationship. Furthermore, Osi knows Spags' defense and could help him sell it to the players. They could possibly give us a 2nd and 4th, for Osi and a conditional pick next year based on Osi's performance.

  9. Osi needs to go. This is not a Giant-like attitude and should be tolerated. The current team was built by Coughlin as a team-first group. I'd rather have Tollefson busting it on every down, than Osi taking downs off. We should have kept Maurice Evans on the practice squad, but I guess Tampa snagged him.

Osi is replaceable and if the RAMs want to give up a draft slot for him, all the better.

BTW, Dick Jauron as the secondary coach for the Eagles??? what's up with that?

  10. - Agree, don't want to get rid of Osi while he's down.

    - Let's see what the second year back from knee surgery looks like, especially in a different D. Can you name a D-lineman, even Tuck, who looked good in Sheridan's defense?

    - All the above being said, nothing is owed Osi. His playing time must, and I'm sure will, depend on his performance. Strahan's pride in his run defense is something I'm sure Osi knows well and should emulate.

  11. Why do players always say stupid things like that? Do they not pay attention to the history of football? Do they not see what happens to other players year in and year out? Does Osi think he's the first player in the history of the NFL to be benched? Does he not realize that Giants will cut him in a heartbeat if they feel he not worth keeping around. Did he not pay attention to what happened to Jeremy Shockey? Sheesh!

  12. Osi is a one game wonder, overrated and will never have higher value than this year! GoGolack--- Did these guys watch the Giants this year??

  13. We fans are way too finicky. Osi is a great pass rusher who's weakness has always been the run. Noone was quick to run him off the team before posting double digit sack numbers, but the jury has come out to do so now following a down season where he's certainly not all too blame for a horrendous defense. The Giants couldn't stop the run or pass, period. What about the performance of everyone else responsible for such a bad defenseive product...Danny Clark, Corey Webster, all of the safeties, etc.

  14. Wayno2424 absolutely, if you throw out a few games OSI becomes very ordinary, but he does make the big play on occassion.

The defense has holes, we all agree. The CBs are probably the strongest group with Webster, Thomas, Ross, Johnson, Dockery(FA)...I'm not saying they're great but they've all played significantly and contributed.

D-Line is not in such bad shape but it has question marks. They could use some help in middle.

Safeties are a weakness and Kenny P is not going to come back and save this group. This is a #1 priority. The LBs are a close second, very close. There's not a single LB who has shown themselves to be a top flight player. Sintim? If you ask me, if he can't beat out what we have now, how good could he be? There's not neough draft picks for us to make up this deficit at LB, and this is why we continue to try the FA route (and mostly fail at it). My opinion is that you can't take someone who has just played his way to the big contract, you have to take a chance on a FA that has upside. The two guys we brought in last year, Clark and Boley did not play to the level of their contracts.

I'll give you some FAs worth looking at:
Rocky McIntosh Redskins LB, Carlos Rodger Redskins CB, DeMeco Ryans LB

  15. Funny that you brought up DeMeco Ryans as that should have been the player drafted instead of Kiwanuka, but that's the Giants' draft board for you. The decision makers place higher emphasis on D-Lineman than Linebackers. It's no wonder why we haven't drafted a 'good' linebacker in years. Obviously, something needs to change as this position has become the most glaring weakness as a result.

  16. To the post above,

You can list all of the LBs the giants have missed in the draft, for various reasons. Ryans is one of them, EJ Henderson, Greenway, Willis.

We use 1 and 2 round picks for WRs, the riskiest position to draft and the one in which a ton of talent can be found throughout the NFL taken in later rounds

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, I wouldn't say that we missed out on EJ Henderson, and neither Chad Greenway nor Patrick Willis were available options for the Giants. Ryans is a different story because he was available when they selected Kiwanuka.

Nonetheless, the point is taken. The Giants do as poor a job drafting linebackers as the Ravens do with drafting receivers.
