Here's a possible reason that Patriots defensive line coach and former Giants linebacking great Pepper Johnson was never -- to my knowlege, anyway -- seriously considered for the defensive coordinator's job.
New England fired its DC a few minutes ago and the immediate in-house front-runner to succeed Dean Pees is: linebackers coach Matt Patricia.
Apparently, Johnson's name doesn't immediately spring to the mind of the eminent Bill Belichick, either, in regard to high-level coaching vacancies.

ReplyDeleteI heard some interesting news came out of the Maddog show on Sirius.
Apparently Bill Cowher wants to coach the Giants, according to Jerome Bettis. Supposedly Cowher's waiting for the Giants job top open up because that's where he wants to coach.
What do you think?
