Interested?

The Post reported today that the Giants could be interested in re-signing disgraced receiver Plaxico Burress once he gets out of prison on work-release in two to three weeks.

General manager Jerry Reese said "We'll definitely investigate it," when Burress becomes eligible. Of course, that date will be decided by commissioner Roger Goodell, who can still administer a suspension for Burress shooting himself in the leg in 2008.

Now, here's the question for you folks. Assuming there's little wrong with Hakeem Nicks' knee, Ramses Barden takes a step up to become an active gameday pass-catcher, and Steve Smith's reliability continues on the upswing, would you risk signing Burress? He could be a major disruption to a young, building unit. And would he gain the fans' forgiveness for lousing up his 2008 season? Also, do you think Reese would seriously consider re-signing him, or is he just saying the right thing?

  1. I'm not sure if Reese will do it, but I would..he's paid his debt

  2. I think he is being politically correct. There is no way the Giants will go down that road again. Remember, even if you take away the gun incident, Plax had excuse after excuse...( I have to take my child to pre-school, he wouldn't practice in the off season with Eli because he was in Miami ) If the Giants sign him they would be walking a dangerous tightrope. When he was cut, that was it...I'm certain.

  3. The Giants NEED a big receiver bad and are only 3 deep at the position. Nobody on the roster can run the fade like him and he would come cheap so the stingy/no good/miserly ownership group would not have a problem. SIGN HIM!

  4. I'm with Wayne.Nicks is in for an MRI today. Hixon is gone. Moss Sucks. If plax comes out in shape to play and he still has it, and the commish lets him (he should... look at the vick situation recently) i would Giv plax a shot. Go back and watch the NFC championship game against green bay... I want THAT guy on my team.

  5. I"m down for it no matter what happens.. I admit Burress made a stupid mistake and probably could have handled things a little differently after the fact, but he has paid is debts and paid more than anyone else who had that previous offense. So bring him back.. I'd rather have him on my team than the cowgirls,

  6. If he turns up in shape and at a cut-rate price, absolutely. We want Barden to turn into a Plax-like threat? What better way than to go to the source. Sign him to a 1 year low dollar deal and see what happens...If he hasn't learned some humility after all he's been through, we can always send him packing. Like Jason said tho, better for us to take the first look at him than have him go to a rival.

  7. Plaxx is a changed man. If you were to be taken away from your family (miss the birth of your child) for over a year you would be changed. What wasn't important to him then is very much important to him now. If re-signed he can bring veteran leadership to the wide receivers. I think he would be the perfect guy to groom the receivers. It would boost team moral as well, just the shot in the arm that is needed.

  8. Another thing, he's been out of football for a year, that's a year of less wear and tear on him.

  9. My personal opinion would be, of course sign him. He'd come cheap trying to improve his image and already has a connection with Eli. All our WRs are developing (except Smith), so get a pro in there.

That said, here's the real deal: Coughlin has spent years getting all the drama out of his locker room. No Shockey, no Plax, etc. He doesn't want to bring back a headache who he has to suspend and fine again for missing practices and meetings. Coughlin will take an average player who shuts his mouth and plays by the rules over a superstar drama queen every day and like it or not, that directly impacts Reese's decision and Reese is already character driven in his scouting.

He won't come back, our WRs are solid and another more desperate team would surely pay more for him. (BEARS)

  10. Reese usually takes a 'never say never' approach to things. He values Plax and once referred to him as a super hero, so there's no doubt that he'd seriously consider it. With that said, Reese is certainly no fool. Any deal would be iron clad full of stipulations/clauses and primarily based off of performance.

The real question is whether Plax will welcome a reunion with the Giants.

  11. Sign him! Plax screwed up. He's still the best receiver we've had since Homer Jones.

  12. a player can BS the management, but i'd sit down with him and try to figure out if he's learned anything from what he's been thru. agree with gggg-men on getting rid of the drama.

  13. I would not sign Plax if he was paying me. Even if he is "changed" and all that.....it would be a media circus and it would damage the locker room and the team's attempt (noted above by gggg-man) to get to a more even, less drama-oriented place.

Not a chance. Especially since the NY Post is a waste of paper and the report was not true. He won't be playing football until the 2011 season at the earliest.
