See-Saw Practice

Last week, tight ends were in short supply. Today, it's quarterbacks.

Thanks to that gaping hole in Eli Manning's head and Jim Sorgi's sore shoulder, the whole practice went to Rhett Bomar. But that was sort of expected. The good news is four tight ends are practicing. The only one out was Jake Ballard, but Travis Beckum, Scott Chandler, and none other than Kevin Boss came a-runnin' when offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride called for a tight end. No word from up north on whether Dave Tollefson is taking any more snaps there.

Also sounds like Jeff Feagles went right to work on inconsistent punter Matt Dodge, and he responded by hitting several gorgeous ones. And then he shanked one. Inconsistent. In all, eight punts for 48.4-yard average and 3.74 hang time. Not bad, but has to get rid of the bad ones. He was lucky to get 44 yards out of that flopper Monday night.

  1. Good news on the TE. With the holes in depth littered around the Giants D (LB, WR, RB, K, P, ST) only three roster spots can be used on TE and The Killer B'S, Boss, Beckum and Bear, have that locked up as long as their healthy.

Feagles better get ready to suit back up if knucklehead keeps shanking in games. He couldnt even get it in the air and I have gone from scared to terrified. The ST were as bad as the D last year.

Did everybody see Adam scored 4 tix to the opener? Way to go Adam, way to score!!! Adam 1 - Billionaire Heirs 0!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I think the Billionaire Heirs have a comeback up their sleves.

  3. Ernie,

Are there really no decent FA punters to bring in for competition? Or is this just standard Coughlin/Reese not jumping the gun and over-reacting.

  4. ggggg-men, gotta give this guy a chance. The Giants don't generally spend a draft pick on ST, so somebody within the organization must have seen something worthwhile. With that said, you never stop improving the team. And if Dodge proves unable to handle the tasks at hand, I'm sure that Reese will be all over the waiver wire around the next scheduled cuts.

  6. Could the Giants' fans actually now have a class action suit against the Giants? They just might...

  7. Haj - It's not about giving this guy a chance; it's about the "what if". Come preseason game 3 or 4, if he's still line-driving and getting blocked, who is there to fall back on? (Yes Wayno, I know you want Feagles to suit up)

We need SOMEBODY else in camp to (1) push Dodge to do better as competition and (2) insurance.

I really don't see Feagles coming back. I love that we're now finally getting distance in punts with a younger guy, but if there's no hang time or control, its meaningless.

  8. wayno - I know it's futile to talk to you about the stadium, but think about your own words, "Adam 1 - Billionaire Heirs 0!". See that word "Billionaire"? That kinda negates Adam's one. I know I'm not a billionaire, I know you're not, and I'm willing to go out on the ledge and guess Adam ain't one, either. So, I'm thinking the billionaires are still in lead by quite a large margin - no offense to Adam, of course. I will give you this, no one else could turn a ticket purchase into the greatest victory since WW II but you Wayno. ONLY you. You are entertaining, I will give you that. You're this blog's own Grampa Simpson.

  9. Hmmm, I would think more along the lines of Milhouse. He has too much energy to be Grandpa Simpson, but I like the reference Dweez.

Heard we were bringing back in that QB from Holy Cross and that Sorgi could miss significant time. I don't know about you guys, but I thought Bomar looked real good during the game.

  10. Believe me, Adam won. He went to work providing for himself and his family every day to use his hard earned $$ to purchase Giants tix. That is more satisfaction then a bunch of ugly elitest Heirs who have never worked a hard day in their lives will ever feel. They have nothing but contempt for those under them. Just see this article to show how stupid they think Giants fans are. Just filled with lies.

  11. CE718 - "Anyway, about my washtub...I just used it that morning to wash my turkey, which in those days was known as a "walking bird". We'd always have walking bird on Thanksgiving with all the trimmings: cranberries, Injun eyes, yams stuffed with gunpowder. Then we'd all watch football, which in those days was called "baseball."

    Doesn't get better than that.

  12. Eli's out for Saturday. Probably good, but right now Bomar's the only QB they have.

  13. Dweez - "I used to be with it, but then they changed what “it” was, and now what I’m with isn’t it. And what’s “it” seems weird and scary to me."

Trust me, I know where you are coming from.

  14. Actually ggggg-men, it is about giving this guy a chance. Feagles is in camp working with this guy everyday. I'm sure if he felt that Dodge was unable to handle the punter duties, he would surely give management a heads up.

Not to mention, the Giants organization as a whole is about giving chances. How else can you explain players like Sinorice Moss and Gerris Wilkinson still being on the team. Their overall production has been marginal, but they both still have a fighting chance of making the team yet again this year.

And with 1 healthy QB, this will really give Bomar an opportunity to shine. All eyes will be on him. Very interesting to see how he steps up. Either way, he's already proven to be much better than the last QB experiment.

  15. Yeah, but he's an untested rookie Punter. I think some insurance with a NFL vet competing with him in camp would be nice. Hell, even Tynes had competition in mini-camp and TC seems to love him.

I just think having a rookie in camp and preseason with no competition is putting all your eggs in one line-drive kicking basket.
