Boley, Nicks, and Ware

We'll have more later, but just a quick update for now.

Looks like the Giants are going to have to make some personnel decisions on Hakeem Nicks and Danny Ware. Although the medical staff has effectively ruled out the dreaded Lisfranc injury that keeps players out for months, even whole seasons, Nicks' sprained foot will keep him out at least a couple of weeks, according to Tom Coughlin.

That means fellow rookie Ramses Barden could see some action in Dallas, especially in the troubled Red Zone offense. That won't be a tough swap, since Barden was inactive for the Redskins game. It's just a matter of putting Nicks down and Barden up.

The problem with the Nicks injury is that Coughlin wasn't real firm on ruling out the Lisfranc issue. He simply said Nicks would be a couple of weeks, and then week-to-week after that. So don't be surprised if, in a couple of weeks, we hear it's more severe than originally thought. For now, though, he's done for at least two weeks.

The tough injury is Ware's. There is no replacement for him on the 53-man roster, so he may need to go on the season-ending IR unless some other position gets cut. It all depends on how the medical staff feels about his healing time. Either way, they can't stick with just Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw against a tough Cowboys defense. Patrick Allen could come up from the practice squad, which could make an offensive line backup like Guy Whimper or Tuten Reyes expendable.

LB Michael Boley is also an issue. He's eligible for practice now that his one-game league suspension is over, and a roster move is coming down tomorrow. That could also entail cutting an offensive lineman, or perhaps defensive tackle Leger Douzable, who was also inactive Sunday.

The question now is whether Boley is medically ready. Remember, he still has a hip issue. But Boley said he felt ready to practice after spending some time training in Arizona, away from the team.

"(The hip) is a lot better, considering where I was," Boley said. "We'll see. It's easy to get in there and say, 'This is what I've done in the weight room.' But until you get into some contact drills, you don't know. But my goal is to play next week."

Whatever the case, expect some roster shuffling in the next day or so.

  1. The Ware injury is so disappointing. He looked real good in preseason and I was looking forward to seeing him get some time, especially in the passing game. I hope he can come back at some point, b/c he'd be a better #1 than Bradshaw in my opinion, once he get the inevitable Jacobs knee injury.

What are the odds that Barden ACTUALLY gets some playing time considering Moss didn't get much last game?
