"Corner"-ed By Injuries

First off, Aaron Ross' hamstring injury is severe enough that he won't play Sunday. Second-year corner Terrell Thomas has already been told he's been starting. That means he's jumping over Kevin Dockery, who may also sit because of a troublesome hamstring that kept both he and Ross out of practice yesterday.

Ross didn't play at all in the preseason, so the Giants are definitely going to go slow with him. And Tom Coughlin said they'd be cautious with Dockery, too, which means University of Miami rookie Bruce Johnson could see significant time at nickelback.

That should be cause for worry, although Thomas is not a bad player by any stretch. But Dockery has proven his worth over the last couple of years, while Thomas is still developing. Ideally, the Giants would be better off with Dockery in there. But, like defensive tackle Chris Canty, it might be worth it for the Giants to sit Dockery a game or two and make sure they have a healthy starter/nickelback for a good stretch of the season.

We'll talk more about that situation as the week progresses.

  3. Looking nice. I just bookmarked the site. A question: With the increase in bloggers requesting and being given credentialed access, how easy was it for you to obtain the credentials from the team? Was your Journal-News credential acceptable? Just curious about that.

  4. Let's hope Ross can play Sunday - we'll be really thin at corner without him.

All indications up to this point were that the team was going to take it slow, but that he would play on Sunday. What makes you think he's out EP? Missing practice today?

  5. Ernie,

John Oehser here. I'm the former NFL/Jaguars beat writer for the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville and the Colts.com writer from 2001-2009 until I was -- you guessed it, downsized. I've been doing a blog -- www.indyfootballreport.com -- since late February in pretty much the same vein as you. Good luck to you and pop me an email at IFROehser@aol.com when you get a chance. Would love to stay in touch with someone else starting down this road.

  6. Ernie,

Makeshift sign inside GIANTS Stadium: "The Palladino Press Box." Hey, it's for one season, but quite an honor. Next year, they'll sell naming rights.

Your stuff is even better without Gannett editors to screw it up!
