Chris Canty

Here's a little reading material on Chris Canty for a slow, beautiful Saturday.

  1. I've always thought highly of Canty as a player and a person. I do think the Giants had some proverbial bad eggs but he's not one of them. If Linval Joseph works out, then the interior Dline will be solid.

  2. May he live up to his talk this year. Granted I thought he was good player with Cowgirls and I thought what an addition when we got him! But it turned out to be not only a bust year for him but for the team!

Hope he can fulfill his promise when he came to the Giants over a year ago.

  3. I saw nothing from him last year. Another year like last year and he will be spending the lockout looking for a team.

  4. How is it that a player that has been as durable as Canty comes to the Giants and immediately pulls a hamstring? What the hell is it about hamstring injuries with this team? Mara was pissed last year and said he wanted to see changes. That's one of the first areas in which I would demand some answers.
It's as if you can't be a Giant unless you sustain some nagging leg injury before breaking camp.

  5. I agree with Lou above 100%. The list of hammies is extensive. There was not much shake up in the program at all. Coughlin is blind to this as he is a bit too "old school" about injuries.

Also why did we keep the special teams coach?

  6. I like him and his potential to make the line dynamic and as devasting a Giants line as I have seen in the last 40 years.

I have thought that the coaching staff may use him in the old "Rover" system at times ie taking Canty and lining him up over the perceived interior weakest O-liner. Chances are then that he lines up, something along the line of Reggie White circa late Eagles 80's early 90's.

Maybe Mr. Joseph (not named william) will fill that role as well....

  7. i agree on the injury comments. A big part of making it to the playoffs and beyond is staying relatively healthy. The Giants' conditioning program and coaches should be held responsible. Sure, there are always going to be injuries, but when you see a pattern of injuries that is more than other teams, it needs to be investigated. I don't think it should be chalked up just to 'bad luck', although the Giants have plenty of that, at times.

  8. Another aspect of the injury bug is the depth at the position. Sometimes injuries create an opening for a player to make their mark. The Giants have some depth at D-line and last year benefited from depth at Oline with Beatty stepping in and getting some playing time. The RB,DB and LB were a completely different issue. Both Jacobs and Bradshaw played through injuries that required major surgeries in the off season; we had no one to spell them at all. IMO if Ware, Brown and anyone else at RB is not healthy, get someone in there who is..The DB had the same issue, no depth, in the past we had veterans like Madison and McQuarters who ended up seeing considerable playing time. Already I see an improvement in the secondary in terms of depth, but not the running backs.
