Gano and Hauschka Workouts

UFL kickers Graham Gano and Steve Hauschka are working out for the Giants, as per ESPN. Both competed for the Ravens job during training camp.

Gano won the Lou Groza award at Florida State as the nation's top collegiate placekicker last season, and had 39 touchbacks on 137 kickoffs from 2007-08. His 33-yard overtime field goal won the Las Vegas Locomotives the UFL championship on Nov. 27.

Hauschka has been out of football, but tried out for the Falcons on Nov. 24.

Wonder if this means Tom Coughlin is thinking about keeping two kickers, using Lawrence Tynes for field goals and either one of these guys for kickoffs? Would seem a big luxury for team in such dire straights as this one. And I can't see cutting Tynes, since he has been hitting his field goals of late.

May have something later.

  1. Ernie, I think Tynes was a goner after Atlanta. Couldn't cut him during the short week, won't put any faith in him based on the 52 yarder at Mile High.

It's not the FG's, it's the field position off his kickoffs-- likely the worst for NYG since they moved the kick back to the 30. They know he almost cost them their only win in two months.

    Help wanted: Touchbacks.

  5. Never even got a chance to watch a UFL game this year. Did anyone else? Will it last?

Hey, if someone can kick the ball deep into the endzone, better yet out the back, I would cut Tynes and sign that guy. No questions asked. Give Tynes a hearty handshake for kicking the game winner vs. Green Bay and then move on. He is not pulling his weight on special teams. I am from Nebraska, the Huskers have a junior kicker who is also a punter. I say, when he enters the draft, the Giants should go after him. Someone who can kick AND punt. Only one roster spot for two positions.

  6. Hey EP,

How is it that the Saints pick up a bunch of defensive backs "off the street" mid season and turn them into superstars and we continue on with the same players who can't even get themselves into position to make a play? Is our team culture that strong against looking for answers "outside" the box?

  7. Harvey B - I had the same thought as i was watching that game last night. Those guys both had been with the team previously so that helped. But still...
