Kiwi And Canty

The Giants are trying every which way to shore up the run defense, as evidenced by today's practice alignment. And thanks to my guy, Ralph, whose eagle eyes noticed that not only has Osi Umenyiora been moved back to second team on the base defense in favor of Mathias Kiwanuka, but that struggling Fred Robbins is keeping him company there in favor of Chris Canty.

Throwing Canty up there achieves two goals. He's expected to be an upgrade over Robbins in the run department. And when Tony Romo goes back to pass, he'll have to consistently look over Canty's huge wingspan. If Canty can get even a little bit of a push up the middle, some of those short throws to Jason Witten over the middle might get tipped.

Robbins had been giving it a good try, but the knee surgery he continued to recover from over the summer seemed to take its toll. He just didn't look like the forceful Robbins of old the past six games, getting pushed around on the run and rarely applying facial pressure.

  1. Ernie, at what point between now and Sunday, do the Giants have to promote someone from the practice squad?

  2. I have to say I like these moves. The only one left is Sintim for Clark, but Osi, Robbins and Chase have given the Giants nothing defensviely. now if Ross could get close to full strength they could be respectible.

  3. Well, I'm glad that they aren't accepting the status quo. However, I have NOT seen anything from Canty to lead me to believe that he will do any better than Robbins. So far, he looks like a free agent pickup bust. Hope Canty proves me wrong Sunday and has a monster game. He's certainly getting a monster paycheck. Be great if he starts to earn it.

  4. I like these moves as well. At least the Giants are not going to mail it in. I think the infusion will help energize the team. I think Sintim will see action, because Boley can't be expected to cover Witten all day. Canty cannot do worse than Robbins who clearly isn't fully recovered form the knee. What worries me is Dallas has a distinct advantage against our depleated secondary. We MUST get to Romo. THAT IS THE KEY...GO BIG BLUE!!!

  5. Finally. TC waited to long in my opinion, however at least they are trying. Osi has been bad all year. Kiwi is an upgrade.

If Canty can't get up for this game then we have a huge bust on our hands.
