Some QB Coach Contact...

but no cigar. According to a report out of Tampa, former Bills quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt will sign with the Bucs in the same capacity. The report said the Giants, along with the Steelers, contacted him about their openings, but Van Pelt only considered the Bucs.

Van Pelt started the 2009 season as the Bills' quarterbacks coach, but ended it as their offensive coordinator after Turk Shoenert was fired.

And here's a blast from the past. Remember Ike Hilliard, the wonderful Giants' receiver who absorbed a medical compendium of injuries during his eight seasons with the Giants? Well, he retired from football following the 2008 season, his fourth year with the Bucs. And now he appears to be the front-runner for that team's wide receivers coach.

Hilliard spent the 2009 season coaching receivers for Jim Haslett's Florida Tuskers of the UFL. He hasn't been tabbed yet, but the report out of the Tampa Tribune says Hilliard's name continues to come up. He was a great player, in my opinion. One of the hardest-working guys around, a true warrior with an undying love for the game and a hatred for losing. He'll make a great position coach.

  1. I always remember Brian Dawkin's cheap shot of him. When he retires, Dawkin's will go down as one of the games great safeties of all time but he wasn't that good and his big hits which were often nothing more than cheapshots as in this case added to his outsized reputation which is a shame. If I saw that jerk somewhere I swear I would mock him as the cheapshot artist he is.... my blood is boiling and i would definately square up with him, no police no lawsuits no weapons.

  2. Ike remains one of my all time favorite Giants. Great posession receiver and a real "gamer". Kerry Collins hung Ike out to dry on many a pass but Ike always held on to move the chains.

I too remember Dawkins' cheap shot. He should have been suspended for several games and wasn't.

  3. QB coach, how about Gibran Hamden, one of the most cerebral players to ever hold a clipboard. Never got his chance in the NFL after being a star in NFL Europe. I thought he was QB coaching at San Diego when the Bills signed him and then released him.

  4. Good to see Ike Hilliard get a coaching job, I remember getting his authograph when I was a young lad at their training camp. I hope the best for him.
