Mike's Practice Report

Mikey G. has a pretty good practice report from this morning which outlines the eminent Victor Cruz' contributions. Also, it's worth noting that Tom Coughlin doesn't seem very interested in promoting the Jets' appearance this year on HBO's Hard Knocks. He's going to handle Monday's preseason opener the same way he'd handle any other preseason opener, by playing his starters a series or two and then using the rest of the game to evaluate the younger players.

In retrospect, as common sense as it is to have the Jets and Giants open the new stadium together the first week of the preseason, both teams will miss something by not having their matchup on the traditional third week, which is really the dress-rehearsal game for the season. There was always that little extra emotion out there, especially with the starters going past halftime, that helped in the final prep.

Agree?

  1. If u want more evidence Pat Hanlon is a jack ass besides the fact he only had Ern on Giants Gameday once last season and had that loudmouth hater from Jersey on nearly every week look no further than the tweet he issued derisively today to counter an NFL reps, "10 hours til Hard Knocks": "Whoppe(sic)... what team is featured" What a joke! The Jets made the conference championship and the Giants were a laughingstock last year so he should just shut his yap and stop tweeting.

BTW: Phsyched for Hard Knocks and if anybody is not they should stop acting like Boston/Philly/Mets/Jets fans and get over their inferiority complex because it is just ridiculous. The Giants are a much better franchise with a much greater history. In my lifetime I have watched the Gianst win 3 super bowls including 2 of the greatest of all time.

  2. Would so love it if Osi or Tuck comes off the edge and just smashes Sanchez so bad that he's out for the season.

  3. How ironic would it be if Kenny Phillips comes back 100% and the Giant D becomes dominant again, and Revis sits out for the year and the Jets go back to Chumpville?

  4. I prefer it this way. It's just exhibition and I'm tired of the in-city/same stadium rivalry causing grudges and in result INJURIES for a meaningless game. (i.e. Osi's injury)

  5. The Jets are going to be looking to deliver cheap shots, so its best not to have starters for this meaningless game

  6. Wayno - you do realize the jets "success" was based entirely on the Colts throwing their game against the jets. Otherwise, no playoffs for them either. It's one thing to earn the playoffs, it's another to have your spot given to you by another team. The reason Giants fans don't support the jets is because we have listened to four decades of "this is our year" and "Giants suck". It seems to be the only two sentences jets fans can string together. I'll never forget when the jets got Neil O'Donnell, some jets fans that I had the misfortune of working with declared it the greatest football move of the century and the move that would guarantee the jets three to four Super Bowl wins in a row. How can you take dolts like that seriously? Frankly, the only fan base I find as obnoxious and ill formed are Cowboys fans - who, not surprisingly - always say "this is our year" and "Giants suck". At least, the Dallas fans have been occasionally right about "this is our year".

  9. Ernie,

I also wondered about Giants/Jets being moved to game 1 in the pre season and it losing its 'edge'...but in reality, didn't the pre season matchup between these 2 lose some of its luster when the Jets moved into Giants stadium in 1984? Heck, in the early 1970's, Namath & Tarkenton would play into the 4th qtrs of a meaningless game.... all because the owners of both teams did not want to lose.

wayno - the Jets HBO special should be entitled; "rex ryan's salad daze"
