More On Phillips

Tom Coughlin indicated today that Kenny Phillips will not play against the Jets in the preseason opener Monday, but will have plenty of time to earn a starting spot before the Sept. 12 regular-season opener against Carolina.

Coughlin said he was pleased with what he saw of the third-year playmaker, who came off PUP this morning and flew around the field on his microfracture repaired left knee. Coughlin said he ran and cut with no difficulty, though he will be limited to one practice per day.

  2. patience please, this is perhaps the first time this kid has been injured ever, we've all read one too many times about players rushing back too soon.

  3. Coughlin would not talk about Phillips starting or even playing unless he was cleared to say so by Reese, who I'm sure speed dials the Orthopod every 15 minutes.

If Phillips plays and then goes down again, it won't be because TC "rushed him back". It will be because to the best of the staff's knowledge, he was as good to go but it just didn't work out. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

  4. I'm not sure about the "clearance" for rushing back a player especially one with a rookie contract. The NFL will have a lock out next year, at this point there's no doubt in my mind. The 2 and 3r year players are expendable for this season.

  5. Give him a couple drives in Preseason weeks 3 and 4 at best.

  6. WRs.

We have a first year receivers coach, and a 1st year QB coach. The WR are some of the youngest guys on the team with virtually no senior leadership. Last year, Keenan McCardell was a coach in development, why didn't we retain him?
I hate reading about the mistakes that Barden makes, and I wonder if a seasoned vet or assistant wouldn't help him improve.
What does everyone think of the staff on the offensive side of the ball?

  7. I say we hire Amani to coach up the receivers. Teach 'em how to keep those toes inbounds

  8. Actually I can see that, Amani coaching up these young receivers...actually I think he would be grest!

  9. gggg-men, that is the best idea I have heard in a while. He needs to sign a one day contract with the Giants anyway to retire as a Giant, unless he (a) doesn't want to or (b) already has.

  10. He already did, CE718.

  11. Good, no hard feelings then. Let's hire him to be the Director of Sideline Awareness.

  14. Ed has a full on man crush on Bear Pascoe. http://www.bigblueview.com/2010/8/10/1606019/giants-training-camp-bear-pascoe

While I suspect Ern is probably fully on board, a tag team match of Ern/Boss vs. Ed/Bear is in order.
