Jacobs

The surgery on Brandon Jacobs' torn meniscus in his left knee apparently went well, according to WFAN's intrepid beat reporter, Paul Dottino. The recovery time on arthroscopic meniscus repair isn't very long, and Jacobs could be back by minicamp.

Question here is, do you guys want him back? With Ahmad Bradshaw also undergoing surgery after nursing three injuries (two ankle sprains and a broken fifth metatarsal) throughout the season, is it time to start rebuilding that backfield? Remember, IRed rookie Andre Brown will be back and raring to go.

  1. YES! U are smoking crack if u think some kid from college who tore up his knee before ever even playing an NFL down can fill in for Jacobs. Is Andre Brown gonna be the new Danny Ware getting credit when he hasn't done squat? BJ is the #1 back until any of the others can prove otherwise but not until they can prove it.

  2. I dont know if I would call Brown raring to go. Hes coming off of a serious achilles injury. I dont see how they let him go

  3. Wayno2424 - Andre Brown's injury was an achilles. A freak thing that could happen to anyone.

I don't know much about Brown, but I do know that guys on NFL Sirius and NFL Network said he has #1 RB potential in a big way, so I'm eager to see him in a #2 or #3 role.

Now I love Jacobs, without a doubt. But if we really are phasing into a pass oriented offense, then Bradshaw and Ware (if still around) are the guys we need in the backfield. Jacobs was the perfect back for our 07-08 smashmouth style of running attack. But now we're replicating the rest of the league and evolving into a more pass heavy offense.

So, I'd say I love Jacobs and his style too much to part with him, BUT he might not be the right fit for the future direction of this offense.....so I understand if he goes and he may just deserve a better system to fit his role.

  4. I love Jacobs, but I have heard real good things about Andre Brown (before he got hurt). I don't think they could cut Jacobs though because who's the #1 RB?

Bradshaw? He's coming off surgery and I don't know if he could carry the ball 25-30 times a game.

Ware? He did nothing last year. Nothing. He should have stayed injured -- that might have helped his potential more.

And that's it. I'm willing to give Jacobs one more year. If he falters again, then they might need to cut him loose.

You can't go into next season with a guy who's not an every-down back (Bradshaw), I guy coming off a non-contact, major injury, entering his first full year (Brown) and I guy who should be relegated to the practice squad (Ware).

  5. running backs are a dime a dozen

  6. My recommendation is to get some disgruntled back from another team and give em the shot.

    Candidates?

  7. Draft question 30+ posts, did anyone mention Myron Rolle?

This is the guy we need to come away from the draft with, jersey kid, Rhodes Scholar, athletic as anyone in the draft.

I'm sorry but nobody else compares. If the Giants know anything, this is the one player they need to draft any other blog messages are moot

  8. Jacobs for one isn't a everydown back. He looks worn down, completely off his game, often injured and just not the same. His body type and style of running can't take the punishment. He exhibits the qualities of a back already in his early 30's, like LT in SD...and Jacobs is just 27 or 28. I loved the guy for what he could do and what he brought to this team, but it's impossible for me to see this guy in the Giant's future.

Given that Bradshaw played so banged up yet produced is a great sign. He's a awesome runner but he isn't the everydown back.

I would like to see Brown in action and still give Ware another chance. He was to early in the dog house when he had that fumble. He exhibits good qualities, he just nees more game time experience.

I would definitely draft another back though and have all the guys compete.

But I think Jacobs is done. I hope not and would love to see him return true to form but his bruising style was his undoing.

  9. Jacobs has played like he's afraid of being injured ever since he blew the tendons out of the back of his knee last season. I wouldn't part ways with him yet, but I'd have him on a short leash.

Bradshaw is deserving of the "main back" workload. He's effective and he's ten times tougher than Jacobs.

Danny Ware looks like he lacks the mental and physical toughness to be a major threat.

    Andre Brown is injury prone.

I would be interested in seeing what Gartrell Johnson can do in the backfield. We didn't get to see much of him other than on STs.

  10. I think the Giants have to do NOTHING at running back except maybe get a late round steal. The top five are a good top five to have going into camp and also have many question marks who may be able to be answered much more definitively than at the present time.

  11. Keep Jacobs. He is a weapon.

He ran behind a gimpy Fullback and a sub-par line. Plus, he was taken out of a few games the G-Men got blown out of so less than 1000 yards this season means nothing to me.

I'm in the camp that this is not a big need. If they pick someone in round 4 or 5 great.

  12. Lets hope that Jacobs' woes this season were injury related. Go back and watch the Super Bowl vs NE, and see how he is running there, after 4 preseason, 16 regular season and in his 4th playoff game. He was noticeably quicker in getting to the line of scrimmage whether between the tackes, to the outside, or cutting back. The difference is amazing. If he can't get that quickness back, he is just a big target to get beaten while falling forward for 2 or 3 yards per carry.

  13. Jacobs is all about Jacobs. I remember before he got his new contract after a good game he would chant "contract" on the side lines. This year, after getting that contract he sucked. Dump him...

  14. WHO CARES ABOUT RUNNING BACK, WE ARE FINE. ELI IS THE TRUTH AND IF U LOOK AT OUR OFFENSIVE RANK THIS SEAON WITH THE TYPE OF INJURIES WE HAD WE ARE SOLID. WE NEED A MIDDLE LINEBACKER IN THE DRAFT...ROLANDO McCLAIN IS THE BEST LINEBACKER IN THE DRAFT. IF HE IS OFF THE BOARD THEN WE GO AFTER CJ SPILLER TO BOOST OUR RUNNING GAME. THE GIANTS HAVE NEVER HAD AN EXPLOSIVE BACK LIKE HE IS GOING TO BE. IF HES GONE THEN WE GO AFTER BRANDON SPIKES, A VERY GOOD BACKER BUT IS A LITTLE SLOW. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD TRADE UP SO WE SECURE McCLAIN. REESE IS THE MAN AT DRAFTING PLAYERS, I BELEIVE THE BEST IN THE GAME. HE ALWAYS GOT A PLAN. SUPER BOWL BOUND NEXT YEAR BOYS, AND WE ARE G0NNA BE UNDER THE RADAR, JUST LIKE 07/08 WHICH WAS A PRETTY GOOD SEASON IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. EVERY BODY SAYS THE GIANTS ARE GONNA GO 7-9 8-8 AND SO ON, JUST THE WAY OUR PLAYERS LIKE IT! I CANT WAIT!

  15. we need a spped small back like the kid from ole miss dexter mclcuskey...A dump off pass to a kid like him opens up everything and curtails the pass rush.
