Ron Lundy died, another adolescent memory gone.
Used to listen to him and Dan Ingram and Harry Harrison as a teenager on WABC playing Beatles, Beach Boys, whatever. Plugged him in at night on the old transistor and went to sleep, then woke up to them in the morning. Good times.
Chime in, all you oldsters out there.

over a decade ago when I was living in rural North Carolina I tuned into the radio very late one night (1AM or so)...only to hear Ron Lundy. I found the number for the station and called in; he was very friendly and we spoke off air about the great days of AM radio in NYC.
ReplyDeletesad news
you forgot to mention Cousin Bruce Morrow
ReplyDeleteAnd George Michael too who passed away a couple of months ago down here in the DC area
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, guys, I never listened much to Cousin Brucey. Don't know why. Guess his hours didn't jibe with mine. I knew who he was, of course, and had heard him from time to time, but Lundy, Harrison, and Ingram were my main guys. And Herb Oscar Anderson, but not sure if he was on the same station or not.
ReplyDeleteWho was your favorite silent movie star Ern?
ReplyDeletelosing some great radio people, George Michael, Ron Lundy, Art Rust Jr....
ReplyDeleteernie
ReplyDeleteDo you remember where you were when Caesar was stabbed?
Don't let the kids get you down, Ernie. I still have my "Kemosabe Kard" from Dan Ingram. Here's a link to football--from when WABC carried Jets games and wanted to remind listeners what the station was really about:

Enjoy!
I'll chime in here with the "old timers". I definitely remember listening to the transistor radio, falling asleep to it at night. I lived in central New York state and would pick up the clear channel radio stations like WLS in CHicago, WBZ in Boston, and the New York radio stations. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteErnie,
ReplyDeleteHerb Oscar was the morning man on WA-Beatles-C during those days, you were spot on as always.
RIP Ron. You were a good friend and a good listen.
