At least according to GM Jerry Reese, who spent some time on Sirius Radio at the owners meeting. Reese said he fully expects Osi Umenyiora to be a major part of the team in 2010 despite Umenyiora's offseason grousing.
“Well, you know, if you guys can remember, when I first got hired as GM, Michael Strahan came in and said ‘You know what? I’m not playing,’” Reese said. “So I’ve been through that from the very beginning. I call it ‘offseason chatter.’ Almost every team there’s one or two players you hear some chatter in that respect.
“Osi and I had some good conversations. I expect Osi to be back and be a huge part of what we’re doing.”

And as Strahan says about Osi - "Shut up and play".
ReplyDeleteOsi WILL get traded! Reese hates him as much as me.
ReplyDeleteOsi has been quiet lately. Maybe he finally got the message that no one (with a brain) was on his side in this.
ReplyDeleteIf he keeps it zipped and works hard in camp, I think he might stay. Otherwise he'll be be a Ram.
LOL.
Reese is comparing apples to oranges. Strahan always played hard. Angry and grousing or not. Osi's anger, whether justified or not, has resulted, at times, not all times, but some times, in diminished enthusiasm while he is on the field. That is a big difference between the two players I would suggest. And Reese knows this well.
ReplyDeleteplease, let us not compare osi to strahan ever again. that being said we need osi to regain his form if we expect to win a playoff game this year. pressure on the qb wins in this league
ReplyDeletesomeone posted before that Osi should catch a break because he was coming off injury. OK, explain how we let Fred Robbins go then? he too was coming off injury, and he was a real force on the defensive line. two seasons ago he was the best defensive lineman on the team.
ReplyDeleteJR will not be able to trade Osi, but teams like the Raiders can get Richard Seymour, the Eagles can get Darryl Tapp and not only can we not get any defensive line help, we can't get rid of the ones that we have...that tells you how far he's dropped. Remove the one game against the eagles and he's had an average career. Not a Pro bowler
More Osi bashing, I don't get it. If anyone doubts Osi's talents, just take a look at the progression made by David Diehl. By no means am I saying that Diehl has turned into a HOF OT, but he has definitely benefited from practicing against Osi day-in and day-out.
ReplyDeleteAnd the reason why Reese wouldn't trade him is because it doesn't make sense financially or otherwise to do so. And, please, when was Robbins ever the best DL on the team. Two years ago, the best DL was Justin Tuck. Funny, the injury to Tuck this year was far more disastrous to the team then Osi's injury last year.

ReplyDeleteAnd when was Robbins ever the best DL on the team? Two years ago, that honor definitely goes to Justin Tuck. One can make the argument that Tuck's injury this year was far more devastating than Osi' injury last year.
because Osi is under 30 and Robbins was well over 30. because even coming back from his injury, Osi had 7 sacks. thats why.
ReplyDelete"Osi is "Not a Pro-Bowler"... Correct... He's a TWO TIME Pro-Bowler!!! Anyone who thinks he's no good, washed up, trouble, etc.. etc... Put your $$$ where your mouth is!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet YOU (a nice steak dinner), that barring a major injury he is a Pro-Bowler AGAIN this season!!! ... Bet me, or pick some other player to bash... JB
